The Chilean hotel has been recognized for the second consecutive year at the World Travel Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in the international tourism industry. The recognition highlights its commitment to sustainability and the conservation initiatives it carries out in Torres del Paine.
Monday, October 12, 2026. For the second consecutive year, Hotel Las Torres has been named South America’s Leading Green Hotel at the World Travel Awards, internationally known as the “Oscars of Tourism.” Located in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park, the hotel has once again received this distinction, reinforcing Chile’s position as one of the region’s leading destinations for sustainable tourism.
Having also won the award in 2025, Hotel Las Torres stands out in a category that brings together hotels from across South America committed to environmental protection. For Las Torres Patagonia, this latest recognition reflects years of work towards a model of tourism that combines nature conservation, ecosystem restoration, and meaningful engagement with local communities.
Hotel Las Torres has introduced a range of initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of its operations. Among them is a biointensive garden that produced more than 1,700 kilograms of food last season, supplying fresh ingredients for the hotel’s culinary offerings. Other efforts include responsible waste management, composting, and creative ways to reuse materials, such as transforming discarded glass bottles into more than 2,000 drinking glasses.
Another important initiative is holistic grazing, which involves moving horses between different pastures according to a carefully planned schedule. This approach allows vegetation to recover naturally while supporting soil regeneration. Since 2018, the practice has received annual Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) certification, which assesses the environmental results of this type of land management.
These efforts extend beyond the hotel’s operations to the conservation of the surrounding landscape. More than 69,000 native trees have been planted to help restore forests affected by wildfires. The organization also maintains a dedicated fire prevention and response brigade and is undertaking the sustainable reconstruction of the Base Torres Trail. So far, 3.3 kilometers of new trail have been completed, helping reduce erosion and improve conditions along one of the park’s most heavily visited routes.
Wildlife protection is another key part of this work. Through Las Torres Patagonia Conservancy, the organization carries out wildlife monitoring and environmental education programs. Last season, 448 students from 14 schools across the Magallanes Region visited the park free of charge. The initiative aims to welcome more than 5,000 children and young people from the region over the next ten years, giving them the opportunity to experience this remarkable landscape firsthand and learn about the importance of protecting its ecosystems.
“Receiving this recognition for the second consecutive year is particularly meaningful to us because it shows that sustainability is not simply a commitment we make, but an integral part of how we live and work every day. At Las Torres Patagonia, sustainability is woven into every aspect of our operations, from gastronomy to the conservation of the surrounding landscape. We believe this is the way forward to continue positioning Chile as an international leader in sustainable tourism,” said Juan López, Commercial Manager at Las Torres Patagonia.
The recognition comes at a time when sustainable tourism is gaining increasing importance worldwide, particularly in natural destinations such as Torres del Paine, where growing visitor numbers present new conservation challenges. Against this backdrop, the award shines a spotlight on the work being carried out in Chilean Patagonia, demonstrating that tourism development and the protection of nature can go hand in hand.
