Las Torres Patagonia, IST and Regional Labor Authority Join Forces to Establish New Medical Unit at Las Torres Reserve

Expected to begin operations between November and December 2026, the new medical facility will provide healthcare and preventive services at Las Torres Patagonia Reserve. Initially serving company employees, the initiative could eventually expand to include visitors to Torres del Paine National Park.

Torres del Paine, October 16, 2026. — Las Torres Patagonia, IST (Instituto de Seguridad del Trabajo) and the Magallanes Regional Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare are working together to establish a new medical unit at Las Torres Patagonia Reserve. The initiative aims to improve access to healthcare and preventive services in Torres del Paine, one of Chile’s most popular tourism destinations.

The project addresses an important challenge in a remote region where long distances and the seasonal arrival of large numbers of visitors and workers can make access to medical services difficult. With hundreds of employees working daily in this geographically isolated setting, having healthcare available closer to their workplace will help improve safety conditions and ensure a timely initial response to accidents, injuries and other medical situations that may arise during working hours.

During its initial phase, the medical unit will serve Las Torres Patagonia employees exclusively, with plans to explore expanding services to visitors to Torres del Paine National Park in the medium term. The facility will be staffed by a general practitioner and a qualified nursing technician, who will provide primary care, wound treatment and initial medical assessments for those requiring attention.

“When we talk about conservation and sustainability in this region, we’re not just talking about protecting the natural environment. We’re also talking about caring for the people who are part of it. This project reflects that same commitment: creating safer conditions, strengthening preventive care and improving well-being for those who work in Torres del Paine every day, as well as the thousands of people who visit each season,” said John Ojeda, Conservation and Sustainability Manager at Las Torres Patagonia.

Preventive healthcare will also be a key component of the initiative. The medical unit will have the necessary equipment to safely store and administer vaccines, enabling services aligned with Chile’s National Immunization Program. These will be complemented by preventive healthcare measures focused on protecting employee health, with the possibility of making these services available to a wider population in a future phase.

IST highlighted the regional significance of the project and the importance of bringing essential healthcare services closer to people in geographically isolated areas.

“This initiative has the potential to make a meaningful difference across the region. By working alongside Las Torres Patagonia, we want to improve access to healthcare in this area. Establishing a local medical service is essential to supporting both employees and park visitors with accessible, high-quality care. Through preventive healthcare, vaccination and medical assistance, our goal is to bring these services closer to everyone who lives, works or travels in this part of Patagonia,” said Nataly Reyes of IST.

The new facility will establish a dedicated point of medical care within Las Torres Patagonia Reserve, initially strengthening healthcare and preventive services for company employees. Looking ahead, the possibility of extending these services to Torres del Paine National Park visitors will be evaluated, helping address one of the region’s ongoing challenges: access to timely medical care in a remote and geographically vast destination.
