Chilean Government to Exempt Australian Citizens from Pre-Approved Visa Requirement for Temporary Entry

The decree issued by Chile’s Interior Ministry was published in the Official Gazette on September 17.

Santiago, Chile – September 22, 2025 – There’s been some good news for Australian citizens planning to visit Chile. The Interior Ministry has issued a decree exempting Australian nationals from the pre-approved visa requirement to enter the country under the “temporary stay” category.

What does this change mean? Effective immediately upon publication of the decree, Australian citizens wishing to enter Chile will no longer need to apply for a pre-approved visa at a Chilean consulate. This exemption applies to travelers entering Chile under the “temporary stay” category, which is intended for visitors who do not plan to reside permanently in the country.

This policy change comes at an ideal time for Chile, as the high season for many of the country’s top tourist destinations begins in the coming weeks. It offers an excellent opportunity for the Australian market to explore the wide variety of natural wonders Chile has to offer.
