The measure takes effect on September 1, while the mandatory use of trekking poles and crampons remains in place until further notice.
Torres del Paine, August 29, 2025 — As winter conditions begin to ease in Chilean Patagonia, Torres del Paine National Park authorities have started lifting several of the safety restrictions that were implemented during the colder months to protect visitors.
From September 1, Chile’s National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) has announced that access to the iconic Base Torres Viewpoint will no longer require a certified guide, provided that visitors remain on authorized trails and hike within designated areas of the national park.
However, due to current trail conditions affected by the winter weather, park authorities have extended the mandatory use of trekking poles and crampons until further notice. Rangers will continue to enforce this requirement at park entrances.
CONAF has stated that further updates on this measure will be provided in the coming weeks, with the aim of ensuring safe hiking for all visitors to the park.
The Las Torres Patagonia team is encouraging all visitors to respect the rules and guidelines issued by park authorities and to stay informed through official communication channels from the relevant institutions operating in the region.
