The award highlights the major strides taken in sustainability by Las Torres Patagonia, recognizing its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, as well as improving its waste management and conservation efforts.
Torres del Paine, Chile – September 28, 2025 – Hotel Las Torres achieved a new milestone for tourism in Chile this week, as the iconic establishment located in the heart of the Torres del Paine National Park was named South America’s Leading Green Hotel at the 2025 World Travel Awards. The family-owned business, with more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, was recognized for its conservation efforts in the park, establishing itself as a true natural and cultural reserve.
Often referred to as the “Oscars of Tourism”, the World Travel Awards celebrated the hotel’s commitment to sustainable tourism – a mission consolidated in recent years through Las Torres Patagonia Conservancy, an NGO founded by the company to lead various environmental and community initiatives in the Torres del Paine National Park.
Among the most notable initiatives is a new sustainable trail leading to the Base Torres Viewpoint, designed to reduce soil erosion, offer panoramic views of the Ascencio River and be more inclusive for all types of visitors.
Just a few steps from the hotel, Las Torres has also developed a sustainable farming program, producing food free from chemicals and pesticides, while turning organic waste into compost to enrich the soil.
This is complemented by the hotel’s restaurant and bar operations, where strategies have been implemented to reduce plastic use, recycle cooking oil and beer residue, create bio-materials and repurpose glass into eco-friendly drinking glasses.
Josian Yaksic, General Manager of Las Torres Patagonia, welcomed the recognition, stating, “this award confirms that it’s possible to offer low-impact tourism experiences in nature. We will continue working to strengthen our operations around these principles, protecting this extraordinary place for future generations and providing a unique experience for all visitors to Torres del Paine. Achievements like this show us we’re on the right path.”
Meanwhile, Juan López, the company’s Commercial Manager, added, “this award is a sign of trust in the vision we are building – one that aligns with travelers who are increasingly aware of their impact. Our goal is to keep moving forward responsibly, protecting our incredible destination: Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park.”
Hotel Las Torres kicks off its new season this October, when it will host the Adventure Travel World Summit, a global gathering for adventure tourism. The event will provide another opportunity for the hotel to share its ongoing efforts in sustainable tourism with a global audience.
To explain more about Las Torres Patagonia’s sustainability initiatives, the company has recently published its Sustainability Report, which details the results and progress of its environmental and social programs. You can read it here: https://lastorresconservancy.org/
