The second version of 10 Volunteers for 10 Days ends with significant progress on the trail to Las Torres Base Lookout

Winners from the United States, Brazil and Chile were able to tour Torres del Paine National Park and support the reconstruction of the country’s most traveled trail.

Torres del Paine, May 9, 2025 – The second version of the 10 Volunteers for 10 Days campaign, promoted by Las Torres Patagonia in collaboration with its foundation, Las Torres Patagonia Conservancy, concluded with new progress on one of the company’s most important projects: the reconstruction of the trail to Las Torres Base Lookout.

During their stay, the 2025 program volunteers focused on supporting the construction of a new section of the trail in the Ascencio Valley area that connects with the Chileno Sector, which is critical for the transit of visitors seeking to reach the Las Torres Base Lookout.

Over the days they worked in the park, the team built 67.1 meters of new trail, carrying out essential tasks such as removing topsoil in the previously marked areas. Subsequently, they shaped the trail profile using back slope and out slope techniques to ensure adequate runoff and prevent erosion caused by rainfall accumulation.

In addition to their work on the new section, volunteers performed maintenance on 206.7 meters of existing trail. These tasks included removing vegetation that had grown over the last few weeks, repairing drains to ensure good water runoff, and widening portions to improve visitor traffic flow and enhance trail safety.

Unlike the previous version, this year’s campaign focused exclusively on soil and vegetation management tasks. The volunteers did not handle rocks that could obstruct the passage or create irregularities in the path.

This experience contributed to the development of more sustainable infrastructure connected to Torres del Paine National Park. It allowed the contest winners to establish a deep connection with Patagonia. During their stay, volunteers participated in several excursions, exploring the park’s natural wonders and experiencing firsthand this unique environment’s ecological and cultural richness.
