The exercise is just one of many emergency simulations carried out in the national park to address an array of critical scenarios.
Torres del Paine, February 29, 2024.- Las Torres Patagonia and the AMA Torres del Paine park ranger staff conducted a fire control exercise in collaboration with Última Esperanza’s Second Fire Company, with the objective of keeping Torres del Paine National Park first response teams constantly prepared.
Joined by the local fire department command staff, Hotel Las Torres paid recognition to the AMA Torres del Paine brigade and provided them with equipment and tools to fight forest fires.
In attendance was Josian Yaksic, Las Torres Patagonia CEO, who congratulated the AMA Torres del Paine staff, along with Bomberos and CONAF, for their fire prevention work, while recalling the great damage that this type of disaster has caused in the past.
Las Torres Patagonia Sustainability Manager John Ojeda also highlighted the event’s importance. “This initiative is part of a series of planned actions aimed at guaranteeing correct participation and response in the face of various emergency situations.”
Ojeda added that different drills were carried out this summer, including by helicopter and by boat, as well as a thorough inspection of the boats on Lake Nordenskjöld.
This cycle concluded with the coordinated participation of UTVs (utility terrain vehicles) equipped with a fire pump appropriate for both wildland and structural fires, and a water cart. A fire truck from the Wildfire Unit of Última Esperanza’s Second Fire Company also participated, proving capable of accessing the area via the Laguna Amarga bridges.
