The new design of the hotel, located in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park, is the work of the renowned duo: architect Pedro Kovacic and interior designer Enrique Concha.
With less than 100 days to go before the start of the 2024-2025 season at Hotel Las Torres, located in the heart of the Torres del Paine National Park, the remodeling work inside the hotel is at full capacity, since the start of this new period will show visitors new rooms, designed and built on a new concept developed by the renowned team led by architect Pedro Kovacic and interior designer Enrique Concha.
Hotel Las Torres, owned by the Kusanovic family, has 74 rooms and is surrounded by mountains, forests, colorful skies and the surrounding fauna of Patagonia. Faced with this panorama, Kovacic and Concha’s vision was clear: “We did not aspire for the interior architecture to compete with the beauty of the environment and nature, which led us to conceive something simple, austere and elegant, while at the same time contemporary”.
To achieve this goal, a new decorative line was chosen for the rooms, also conceiving the spaces and surfaces with a new proposal. Porcelain tile was chosen for the floors of the rooms, which, according to Kovacic y Concha, reflects the chromatic range and texture of the Torres del Paine.
The main element of these new rooms will be the backrests of the beds, which they describe as “the conquest of an architectural space through three key elements. Firstly, there is the wood that consists of a micro ripado, as a code of contemporaneity, then there is the fabric on linen, which subtly reflects the identity of Patagonia and finally there is the lighting, discreet and simple, with the aim of creating a warm and welcoming space for the passenger”.
The bathrooms will also be part of this new era at Hotel Las Torres, leaving aside the classic bathtubs for showers with glass doors. As for the composition of the walls, “porcelain tile and fixtures that generate a timeless balance, fusing the past through the vanity with elements that point to the future” have been selected.
Kovacic and Concha describe that the atmosphere inside the room seeks to “induce in the guest a sense of calm, creating a serene space that does not intend to compete with the authentic beauty of the surrounding nature. This intention is not ascribed to a historicist objective, nor does it seek to adopt a rustic code; on the contrary, it represents a significant challenge by presenting Patagonia in a contemporary manner.”
Not only the rooms will be remodeled for this new season at Hotel Las Torres, the corridors will also be part of this new image, including the spaces between them, which are often used by passengers to admire the scenery through the huge windows overlooking Mount Almirante Nieto. During the next year, Las Torres Patagonia will continue with this remodeling by extending the works to the Coiron Restaurant, Pioneer Bar, among others.
The corridors are being built with boards that have been cut with a design of proportion and naturally weathered by water and wind, “so the guest will walk through an authentic and strong wooden corridor, causing a contrast with their entrance to the room,” comment Kovacic and Concha, to add that the corridors “are conceived as totally neutral connectors, simple and stripped of luxurious or sophisticated materials. The circulation and the route have been designed with austerity, remaining coherent with the main concept of the proposal”.
As Las Torres Patagonia has developed over the past decades, there are also sustainable elements in the construction of these new rooms. The carpets, in addition to having materials that comply with fire standards, also have recycled elements in their manufacture. The same nature of the materials can also be found in the curtains.
The next season of Hotel Las Torres opens its doors on October 1, 2024, when the first passengers will be able to see with their own eyes the new rooms that Kovacic and Concha’s team developed during these months.
